New work for upcoming show at Libby Edwards Galleries, Melbourne.
Small Museum of Nature and Industry (2010) by Susan Collard
“The smallest book I’ve made to date, this is a little fatter than a perfect cube. Materials include birch aircraft plywood, basswood, slate, various metals, mirrors, linen thread, and a shell. With the title and materials in mind, I tried to make a book with the open-ended complexity of a miniature museum.”

One of the things I love about art is that people do stuff like this, because they can.
Jeff Simpson (*jeffsimpsonkh) is a concept artist working at Ubisoft in Montreal. His work mainly builds on the contrast between beautiful women and conflicting forces. Masterfully mixing the surreal with fantasy and Sci-Fi, he has worked on concept art for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and character design for Snow White and the Huntsman. Make sure to check out his deviantART Gallery.
I’ve ended up out minus pen again. I have pencils but it’s not the same for writing and it actually says a great deal about my mental state.
I’m trying to figure out how to translate the last six months into art.
The trust, love, lust, sex, strength, hope and joy, and the hurt, betrayals, grief, misery, loss, depression and rage. It’s so BIG and complex which makes it so hard to quantify and rephrase in images.
But something has to come of it, in the end, and why not art?

My good friend Alex painted these lovely Spirit portraits for his thesis.

Something something about style and subversive meaning…
God I always feel like a complete wanker when I want to talk art.
This also translates into:
- “Why am I so motivated when it’s really late?”
- “The best time to make ideas is through sleep deprivation!”
- “I want to do so much more right before bed and I don’t understand why!”
- etc.
So basically when you stay up way too late it effects your…
